hmm...

Is it a satelite floating farther away from the Earth?

If there is a satelite, is it taking a picture of the Earth?

Nearly nearly nearly, but it's not a satellite. Satellites orbit something.

I suppose that's one "good" thing about my degree (aero engineering), there aren't too many terms/words/etc that have "alternative" meanings.
What, like cockpits, turboshafts, thrust, nozzles, corkscrews, ram drag, payload, flaps, and wind tunnels?

So it's a rocketship/UFO/Rover floating farther away from the Earth while it's taking a picture of the Earth?

So the answer to the question is "the earth", and all we are doing now is disputing why it is earth, right? And it looks like it was a specific somehting that was sent out of orbit into space and is still taking pictures of earth? There's nothing like that to my knowledge. Unless someone's been trying to take a picture of our whole solar system. Which could take a while.

Ok, so having quickly checked the internet, it looks like Voyager 1 could have taken these sort of pictures. Although its focuse is more to take pictures of Saturn, Jupiter and Neptune. It is now the furthest man-made thing from earth though...

It's clearly the pale blue dot by Carl Sagan :)

Might as well quote it

Quote:

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

Solved.

The Earth as viewed by the camera of the Voyager 1 spacecraft.

fairly simple

A man told his son that he would give him $1000 if he could accomplish the following task. The father gave his son ten envelopes and a thousand dollars, all in one dollar bills. He told his son, "Place the money in the envelopes in such a manner that no matter what number of dollars I ask for, you can give me one or more of the envelopes, containing the exact amount I asked for without having to open any of the envelopes. If you can do this, you will keep the $1000."

When the father asked for a sum of money, the son was able to give him envelopes containing the exact amount of money asked for. How did the son distribute the money among the ten envelopes?

damn you Zogger. I know the answer, but i'm not allowed to answer.
Was on a grade 11 quiz for bonus marks. I don't know the work to get to the answer though, so if someone could show their work to get the answer is awesome.
