Everyone's sigs on this site are so big! Yet they have to be 30 kb or less to upload! i want to tell you a story:

I see that many people on btp have sigs. so i decide to ake one for myself. I know the basics - make a sig, save the sig, upload the sig. I have psp5 ,so I open psp5, intending to make a sig. It is 300 pixels wide, 130 high, and it is greyscale (8bit). I use picture tube to make the letters "b" "o" "b". Then I'm done. I know it's very simple, but i am a n00b to imaging. And it's 275 kb! this is far too big to upload to btp! how did you all make your sigs so big and detailed, yet so small in memory terms?

find something called optimize and work it out

u need to save as .gif. thats the best one. not png cause it doesnt always come out transparent. so ya. save as that and make it about 200x200

C1: png always comes out transparent, if you tell it to. You are a fool.

okay, i got it below 40kb, saved it as a .gif file, but whenever i try to upload it it says cannot upload must be .png, .gif etc.

well is it gif and maybe try changing the name of it. And are u using upload sig and not submit from under the file section?

you should use count colours on your original file, if there more than a few thousand (photos, complex filters etc) the you should save it as a jpg file, use around 40% compression and you'll get a decent quality web picture that is pretty small in filesize.

sigs have to have a limit... same with avatars. i hate scrolling 50000 pixels down a page because someone had the bright idea of using giganti-assed size poster for their signature.

If you dont want a horizontal scroll bar, get some tape (duct tape, preferably) and cover the area where it should be. Are they [horizontal scroll bars] that much of a hinderence?
