Discuss your favorites here, I guess. I haven't played enough in my time to judge accurately, but of course I go with the classic Dooms. More specifically, the first episode of Doom I. I thought it had the best atmosphere and monster placement in the game. Nothing quite like entering a fully lit room, opening the door, and finding that the next room is a pitch-black one, with only occasional flickering of the lights, and monsters throughout the room. Thinking on what to do, I finally decide to whip out the chainsaw ;) I still play it regularly. And "Barrels o' Fun" from Doom II has to be one of the most classic levels ever... also on my list is Timesplitters 2. Nothing like Doom really, but I played it for a long time.

Um, yes. Post here and stuff.

Doom is a fantastic series. I completed all the chapters of DooM1 and started on DooM2, but the save file seemed to crash the game when loaded so I just skipped final DooM to DooM3.

I've played ut2004, which i've allready commented on.

I own the great half life 2. I could go on for ages explaining the sheer amazeingness of half life 2, but in a short sentence. Half life 2 is fuckin' amazing and truely is a fantastic fps.

I also got CS+CS: S when i bought half life2, and I hate them both. Generally boring gameplay and those games give me no entertainment.

I agree totally about HL2 being absolutly incredible.
But I draw the line wabout what you say about CS: S, CS is poop but Source is brilliant.

CS : S i can play for hours.

You really get back what everyone playing puts in.

When there are two evenly matched sides and lots of close range skirmishing etc. Its great.

When the whole other team don AWP's and sit and sniper your team to death. Its quickly demoralising.

Its a love it or hate it thing. I guess.

I dont mind hl2 : dm but i find it too frantic and easy to be spawn killed.

Thats why I hate Medal of Honor, both AA and PA. Thats all people do is sit with a sniper and watch spawn points.
But when no-one is dying, theres no-one to snipe.
WHATS THE POINT!?!

*ahem*
Edit: Sorry about the caps

HL2: DM totally rocks. I joined a server, the top server score was about 100. After some time I managed to get a score of 200(I was #1 on the server) the guy on 2nd place was very far behind, but qsquelchy was just second and left the game randomly. But yes, very easy to get killed on spawn age, and I ALLWAYS get killed when I first join the game, gotta click the "ok" button and it kidna lags at the start(it auto spawns me then)

What I hate about CS:S is my extreme crapness of it. I join a server and get killed and find my self waiting 20 mins untill I can play again, by then i'm trying to see though my eyelids.

The best FPS ive played is Halo, followed by Serious Sam. I havnt played many FPS's at all so theres definatly something better out there.

I like serious sam for the sheer unseriousness of it. Pratically all you do is go round killing off surreal monsters. But I can get hooked to it for hours, especially on internet games and split screen with 4 players on one computer.

Halo is also easy, and theres nothing unique about it. The storyline is great though, and sometimes the levels get really fun espeically with many vehicles and flying contraptions. If Halo 2 came on computer, I would get that too. But I dont own an Xbox and havnt played it enough to know how good it is.

Anyone ever played Farcry? Id like to know how good that is.

Farcry is above average. But slightly overshadowed by hl2.

Its very good though. Especially the utterly breathtaking outdoor levels.

nothing unique? From what I've seen it's probably the best implementation of vehicles at the time. Whether anyone else has done it better I don't know - and it's even better in halo 2 - boarding, and on top of that dual weilding with different combinations. And maybe the whole 2 different enemies at once thing. And only being able to hold 2 weapons, that's a good feature ;).

Farcry - yeh it has amazing graphics, but it runs at about 23fps on my comp.. heh, even slower on the big cavey bit in the demo.

I suppose I cant even say its not unique if Ive never played many FPS's before. But as I was writing that it looked slightly boring. Im sure if I was playing it at the time I wouldnt have written that.

Dual wielding has been done to death, especially in the 007 games. Vehicles are easily outclassed by Unreal Tournament 2004.

Halo shines, because it's quite possibly the best console FPS made, since it was specifically geared for consoles. And just because other games do things better, doesn't mean that Halo neccessarily sucks.

My pick would be UT2k4, but then again, I havn't actually played an FPS outside of Goldeneye and Halo/2. I really need to get out more...

[my point was - halo 1 (2001) ut2k4 (2004)]
and afaik dual weilding's better than goldeneye - something about combinations? but I don't know, really.
