First came the unveiling of the Xbox 360, that was with much hype in teh MTV studios. Now in E3 2005 the Playstation 3 was unveiled! (w00tage )
I dunno bout you lot but i'm getting excited for the arrival of the PS3. 3.2GHz processor, the Cell. 512Mb Graphics card at 550Mhz, 2k by 1k resoultion. Its gonna kick the Xbox squarely up the gluteus maximus.
Your opinions please. What would you buy, the PS3 or the Xbox 360?
A link for PS3 info:

I would buy the Ps3 because I already have a Ps2, and the Ps3 is backwards capable to the Ps1. Also, Take a look at this The graphics are amazing.

Xbox, because I am teh xbox3r.
While the Ps3 has a 3.2 Ghz processor, the xbox 2 has Three symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each.
Heh, tho I wonder how they're gonna keep it cool without melting the box itself xD

Xbox, because I am teh xbox3r.
While the Ps3 has a 3.2 Ghz processor, the xbox 2 has Three symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each.
The Xbox has three cores, but it runs less than half the information that the PS3's Cell processor can do in the same amount of time. The Cells even has its own physics processor. And, the PS3 has the best graphics card out of all of them.
I'll sum up my observations of the consoles.
Xbox is just, there. They lost the element of surprise completely with the MTV special. They blew themselves away by saying that this is the Xbox 1.5, not a true successor. They didn't bring enough to the table at the E3 press conference. And even then, one of their major selling points is that it's going to be for everyone, whether they play games or not. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to pay money to download a skatepark made by someone that's never played a Tony Hawk game before. Also, their Silver and Gold Live versions are just hype. The other two consoles are giving out full functionality FOR FREE, whereas Xbox Live full functionality will cost. Overall, Xbox dropped the ball on this one.
Nintendo, well, not much can be said for them. They unveiled the new Legend of Zelda game, which looks stunning by all graphical standpoints. However, their Revolution details were severely lacking. All they really revealed was the console design. And I'm dissapointed by the design itself. It's so small, that they can't possibly hold that much power inside of it. Though, Nintendo did give itself two advantages though. One, is complete backwards compatibility, going back through over twenty years of Nintendo gaming. The second, is the obvious low price point will make it a good second choice for people that have already bought a PS3 or Xbox. One thing that I'm really worried about is the overall third-party success on their new platform. If it's going to be as difficult to develop for as the DS, they might run into some problems. And in order for them to even have a chance to make a new console, they HAVE to do well with this one.
Finally, Playstation. What can I say? Just look at the tech demos for it. It's absolutely stunning, especially the fact that none of it was prerendered. They've really proven that they're not so much going for how things look (which they've more than got), but how things moveMy favorite one was the triple tornadoes running around throwing the leaves around. Each leaf was run by the physics engine, not by external coding (trust me on this, alot of Xbox's showing was prerendered). I was even more amazed when they said that the Cell processor could even run separate audio channels for each individual leaf. Absolutely astounding. Additionally, facial expressions have vastly outstriped Xbox 360's showing, they actually look real, compared to the sort of blocky faces on the Xbox.. Also, the games shown look absolutely fantastic, especially Insomniac's new game. Furthermore, with the physics and graphical engines pre-programmed into the Cell processor, developers will be able to spend less time making things look pretty, and more time on such things as game design and AI. Playstation is also getting itself on the map by using blue-ray technology, which will allow them to have the highest storage capacity out of the consoles. This will also give them an extra selling point, as DVD players that run blue-ray disks are likely to be quite expensive at the time the PS3 comes out. The PS3 has the superior power and support to catapult it above and beyond everything. If Microsoft and Nintendo don't get their acts together, PS3 is liable to 'Dreamcast' both of them.
Right now, if any console winner could be declared at this year's E3, it would be Playstation hands down.
Edit: About the PS3's powers of processing, I quote a friend from another forum that's got the info:
Cell gives them a great leap forward in CPU. From what I have gathered, PS3's GPU is only slightly better than what is available right now for a high-end PC. The CPU, however, is capable of about 10x the FLOPS of the high end PC. This gives them a lot of extra CPU time to be used for Physics simulations and AI. I would expect a lot of free flowing or partially restricted cloth simulations in PS3 games.
This proves that the PS3 will be able to hold over twice as many instructions at one time, as the Xbox will be able to.

Well I like my box's so nyah.
Even tho xboxlive will cost, I bet it will be the best thing that'll happen to multiplayer online combat. Xboxlive now is Uber fun, and I beleive it will succeed.

After seeing the games that are being shown off at E3 for the Xbox360, it seems that the future is a little brighter for that console. It still hasn't sold me, what with Microsoft's mixed messages at press conference and it's hardware inferiority (and the fact that MS will have to learn the hard way not to charge for online gaming), but I wouldn't mind *ahem* 'borrowing' one from a friend when it comes out.
Personally, I'm happy to see that Sakaguchi-san isn't being put to waste by Microsoft.

An XBL subscription currently hardly breaks the bank. It's the price of just one game a year. Look at the number of people who are paying far more than that just to play one game: WoW (the game that is, not the expression). On top of that a subscription fee keeps out a large number of cheaters - they can't just keep signing up over and over.
The XBox has Halo, it has to be said (although who knows whether there'll be a halo 3), and a games line-up I'm not unhappy with, while I don't find anything currently on the PS2 that interesting - although I can't say I've looked that hard.

Yes I agree.

There will be a Halo 3, and it is scheduled to be released at the same time the PS3 launches.
As for Xbox Live, it's the sheer fact that it costs, not that it's a small price to pay. My real problem with it is Xbox Marketplace, where people are actually going to put up their crapy stuff (THPS parks by people that have never played it before?) to sell to people. I mean, it's sort of a good idea, but it shows that Microsoft is trying to cater to people that will actually do this, which is much less than the hardcore gamers out there. They propose they will get 1 billion people on Xbox live by the end of the console cycle using this feature. I personally doubt that.

I don't know where you heard that, but whoever said it doesn't have any facts to base it on.
Unless I'm missing something huge.

Wow, just looked at the screen shots of the new Ps3 and it looks the sexiest out of the three new consoles (The xbox being 2nd. The nintendo thing looks to small and like a box with no standout features). And is it just me, or does the writing on the side the font they used for Spider-Man?
