There will be a Halo 3, and it is scheduled to be released at the same time the PS3 launches.

I don't know where you heard that, but whoever said it doesn't have any facts to base it on.

Unless I'm missing something huge.

You are. IGN got a hint that the game was currently in development by Bungee.

http://forevergeek.com/entertainment/halo_3_to_ko_ps3.php

The Visit Site link links to the "off the record" article. However, the development of Halo 3 was confirmed in an interview with G4 during the E3 coverage last night (or was it the night before?).

As for the pricepoint for PS3, get ready for it. It's speculated that it will come in at AT LEAST $500. However, that doesn't seem like much, when you consider the graphics card itself would be worth $1000, and the Cell processor would probably be worth way over that. As well as the fact that you will be able to play blue-ray movies on it.

Fair enough, if it's an E3 announcement it hasn't been posted on HBO cause all the staff are there I guess. HBO is on my RSS feeds so I at least scan every article, leading to the assumption that it was wrong.. heh

The Revolution will be backwards compatable to the nes, which is great. It's also done by downloads, although it hasn't been comfirmed. The Revolution also looks sexiest out of all three consoles. :D

Images Of The Revolution

The discs aren't GameCube sized. They're 12cm. The same as DVDs, this is a better move, as that will (hopefully), allow more 3rd party devolopers to produce more games.

It will be free online, which is fantastic.

Online Smash Bros will be one of the launch titles, along with a Metroid hames. Iwata also confirmed work on next gen Mario and Zelda is already underway.

It it nice and small, which I like in my consoles, about 3 DVD cases stacked ontop of each other.

I feel the Revolution may have a good chance at dominating the market. I mean, over 20 years of classic gaming, free online, what more could you ask for? And, ofcourse, ninty always beat Sony and Microsoft in the inovation factor. The Revolution is shaping up nicely.

Sorry if any of this has been posted, but I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread.

The Revolution's looking pretty good to me right now. I was always a fan of the old-school Nintendo stuff, and free online's always a plus. And there's no way I'm spending $500+ for a console.

Knowing nintendo, they will have a cheaper console, I'd guess the ps3 and Xbox 360 will be in the price range of £300+, while the Revolution, I'd guess... £200 - £250.

The problem with the Revolution, as I see it, is that it's going to be the weakest out of all the consoles for this cycle. They can't possibly put that much power into it, it's just too small to fit giant graphics cards and such. However, it does benefit from a low price tag.

It was confirmed at E3 during the Nintendo press conference that you would be downloading the old games.

There is a benefit to paying that much for a console. You won't have to pay a similar ammount to buy a blue-ray DVD player.

The rev won't be able to play DVDs off the mark, you will need to buy something sepearate for it, which I think is a good move, as most households own a DVD player. The rev won't have as much power, I can almost sence it, but it doesn't matter. Sony and Microsoft, as usual, are focusing on power, when it's not needed.

Actually, there is a benefit to the PS3's additional power. The Cell processor can handle ten times as many flops as the most powerful processor in a PC. This means that it can make graphically appealing games, while still making a realistic AI, two things that have been pretty much separate up until now. It also means that, since it already has it's own physics subroutines, developers won't have to work so hard on graphics and will be able to devote time to better things, such as gameplay and AI.
However, I do feel that the X360 is just trying to play the role of the badass by putting three processors in the console.

Well, I got my Nintendo Power today, and I have some (somewhat) sad news about the online features for the Revolution. They're being handled by GameSpy...

Whether you see that as good or bad depends solely on your experience with GameSpy. However, I've never had a good experience with it, so I am somewhat troubled by it.

COMPLETE backwards capability?! As in all the way to Super Nintendo? :o If that's true, I want that :P

Even back to the NES.

what the fuck? hows that gonna work? those cartridges are bigger than the Rev. itself

edit: my opinions on the ps3 and rev.
1: The PS3, its probibly one of the oddest(ugliest, but good curvy design, not for gaming tho) looking CONSOLE i'll ever see. It looks like a freakin scanner and seems very hard to handle. In all, the power they say will be put to good use.

2: The Revolution. Odd name for a console that would be on the market for years, say the next 2 years... would the revolution really be a revolution? Next, it looks like my cable(tv) box. Slip and slide the CD's in, from my past expirence with CD players (in cars) with 'slip in the cd and go' kinds of players, they tend to break and never actually eject the CD... But it seems Nintendo lovers wont care 8 shits about it

3: 360. Why in the hell was it named 360? Why not.. The Next Box, or XBOX2. They say that huge green circle will have purposes. Like, power button, and, notification that the console is actually powered on. But seriously, I think the 360 is one of all the others that actually LOOKS like a gaming console (maybe a little big, since my sources say that the sizr of the thing is the same size as the orignal xbox [dont bitch that its to big to carry, thats what handheld gameboys are for] and that it was also designed to sit ontop of the Xbox1)

I'll be getting the Nintendo Revolution.

Why?

  • Backwards compatability with Gamecube discs and controllers, which I own.

  • Complete backwards compatability online, through internet. (Come on, three versions of Super Smash Brothers - N64, Gamecube, Revolution? Perfect Dark for N64? Goldeneye? Play through history!)

  • Free online play. I've always been a big beliver in _free online play_. Why? I bought the system, not a licence to use the system. I bought Starcraft to play online with (or other generic online game), not to continually pay to play online with. I'm not paying multible times for a single feature.

  • Small form factor. Might not matter to most people, but last year I kept my Gamecube in my car, 24/7, for at least 5 months. I took it out and played it in about 7 seperate places, multible times - at least 4 times a week. Small form factor = mobility.

Now, about the damn 'console spec wars': Nintendo said it best when they said "It just doesnt matter"! Look at Gamecube vs. Xbox. Now, who has technical superiority? Xbox. Who has graphical superiority? I say gamecube, but the real answer is neither. Neither, you ask? Right. Look at crap third party games for Xbox, which have crappier graphics then some PS2 games, even. Now look at crap gamecube games. Even the crap gamecube games looked much nicer than PS2 games. And have you SEEN the new zelda screenshots? Xbox (1) cannot beat that. Sure, Halo and Halo 2 are pretty, but guess what: Within 10 minutes of me playing Halo 1, I found a bug in the game. I mean, damn. Anyway, The real way to measure a console ability is like this: ((Number of awesome gfx games + (.5 * Number of nice looking games)) / Number of games * 100). This will give us a nice percentage of how many games have good graphics. With the amount of shitty graphic games released on the Xbox, this number is sure to be in gamecube's favor.

One final note about the console spec battle: "Its not the size that matters, it's how you use it!". If I've got a rocket launcher, and you have a air (blow) gun, who'll win? Probably me - I'll poison my darts, and shoot you. You'll aim for me, i'll duck, and you'll blow up the building on you're head. Still think that bigger is better?

Pioneer, they do not call it the Xbox 2 because it's the Xbox 1.5. They already said it in a press conference, and as a result, they're getting alot of flack from everyone.

Personally, if I could ever get a decent internet connection, I would probably get the PS3 and Revolution. The order depends on how much money I have on hand at the time of release.

You download the NES games from the net, You don't stick your old carts into it.

I'm gonna end up getting the Ps3, Based on the fact that I already have loads of old Ps1/2 games, The net play it free and I don't want either of the other two.

The NR just looks like a small black box. And with the xbox, if has the same Xbox-only games then I might as well stick with the Ps3. All the xbox had to it's self is Halo, which is an OK game. I prefer the Ps2 only games(Devil May cry, Ratchet and Clank, Some other stuff)
