I can name three american inventions off the top of my head:
1) The motorized vehicle.
2) The airplane.

Without the latter, there would be no computers or internet as sophisticated as there are today, if they would even exist beyond the old hulking behemoths. AND, there would also be alot less of an economy in the entertainment business, which would mean the world economy would also be alot lower. Transportation would also be vastly behind if it progressed beyond ships and trains without the motorized vehicle or the airplane.
Yes, they're all 20th centuary inventions. But without them you wouldn't be sitting here talking right now. Not to say that America hasn't totally screwed OTHER things up, but it is at least somewhat of a redeming quality.

And without the British you wouldn't have had better medical procedures and equiment as developed during the rennaisance period. All these advances came from countries like England, France, Germany, Italy. Surgery, anaesthetics, Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution. How would you know where you came from without him? How would you be able to perform operations without the advances in medicine during the 19th century? How would you even know how the heart works? How would you know what caused disease? The fact is, you wouldn't.

The aeroplane was first invented by someone from New Zealand AFAIK, after watching Billy Connelly's tour of New Zealand a few nights back.

Trains were invented by the british. Ships were manufactured a great deal during the industrial revolution by the british, not the USA.

The USA has only advanced things in the world post 1918, Britian has advanced and invented things/methods to improve health, lifestyle etc for many centuries.
