yes, but neither of those things matters at all, cause those were done by people in the past. in the past neither country had any major problems (you know what I mean, don't analyze this), but now england is run by blair and us by bush... and THAT'S a problem

erm, what history classes did you take? the americans joined the way because they were attacked pre-emptively by japan and contributed major manpower to the assault on normandy and the subsequent push towards the german capital. Without the extra force contributed by america, and if memory serves, canada the d-day landings would likely have never happened and mainland europe would have remained under the nazi rule of the axis forces.

As for the bomb on an innocent country? dont talk crap. germany had surrendered and japan refused to - it's soldiers would not even let themselves be captured (hari kari anyone?). The only forseeable end to the war was to showcase an immense power and scare the japanese commanders into surrender - which is what the A-bomb succeeded in doing.




I believe you'll find that the majority of the technical advances from the 18th century til well into the 20th century were from Great Britain, it is only rather recently that a significant number of technological breakthroughs has begun to emerge from the USA, with many developments also coming from Japan, as well as the usual stuff from the richer european nations.

Were it not for the industrial revolution in the united kingdom, we would probably be many, many years behind our current level of technology.

I can name three american inventions off the top of my head:
1) The motorized vehicle.
2) The airplane.
3) The television.

Without the latter, there would be no computers or internet as sophisticated as there are today, if they would even exist beyond the old hulking behemoths. AND, there would also be alot less of an economy in the entertainment business, which would mean the world economy would also be alot lower. Transportation would also be vastly behind if it progressed beyond ships and trains without the motorized vehicle or the airplane.
Yes, they're all 20th centuary inventions. But without them you wouldn't be sitting here talking right now. Not to say that America hasn't totally screwed OTHER things up, but it is at least somewhat of a redeming quality.
