I don't think this thread is spam. I think it lets people know that the owner of google-watch.org is an idiot, so you won't fall for his schemes.

Also there's the point that your emails don't necessarily get permanently deleted as soon as you press delete. This is because Google makes backups, and you can't expect them to go rooting through their massive, secure backup storage every time an email is deleted.

And I wouldn't be surprised if other providers scanned your emails and gave you relevant popups. it's just Google is more upfront about it.

Rule #1: Don't be evil.

It occured to me, that since other companies automatically mark certain emails as spam, then in the same way that google scan your emails for adwords, the other companies scan them for spam (as does google). Which pretty much invalidates everyone's claims that Gmail is invading their privacy by scanning their email. The only difference is that they're providing some links that may be useful at the same time, instead of random advertising.
