Oh dear, look what I started...

Am I the only one who sees some irony in the fact that Jakob Nielsen has been saying for years that IE8 will be the first decent browser, and now it looks like IE6.05 or IE7 will be the last version?

I could have converted that image into 8-bit paletted, and had my image program save it as a PNG8, but I didn't want to. I don't see why I should have bothered.

And now, security. Before replying to this, I'd like every IE user reading this to visit the page below and click the link at the bottom. The page will try to replace an EXE on your hard disk and run itself. This problem was found and reported in September, has it been fixed? You tell me.

meh, yeh, it's easy for PNGs, but when it comes to using CSS and Javascript, you follow all the standards (well, maybe I don't, but some people do), then test it in IE, and find that nothing works whatsoever, and take another 5 hours trying to get it to work in both browsers.

heh, yes whiz is wrong (IMO) to blame the user, but it's microsoft that needs to take that little extra effort, not the developer....

Well I blame the user because it is obvious that the developer doesnt care. Why would you stick to a developer who has no intention of fixing anything?

To further prove IE's horribleness, it doesnt even render the bottom four pictures at http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngs-img.html

[edit]
and i agree completeley with the CSS stuff - I wrote my own site completely to the standards, and it looks great in mozilla. Then I look at it in IE - it doesnt render ANYTHING.

Maybe thats what re-fueled my hatred for IE. I ended up having to use IE's conditional comments (dont get me started on what a stupid idea this was) to load an IE-only css style to get the thing to show anything. and it STILL doesnt look exactly right :-\

I have a question, Isnt .PNG firework's format? I'm confused... I always thought it was kinda like the .FLA format for flash.

nah, PNG is a free image format, unlike GIF. I can't really tell you much, but libpng.org can, I think.

and when I said developer, I meant the web developer, not microsoft. If you weren't sure, that is.

Ah, I was about to post asking how Microsoft was not the developer. Also, I kinda meant the web developer too, not that you're wrong, but a lot of the time it isn't that hard to make something compatible. Especially in some cases when they intentionally write their pages in a way that works against IE/Microsoft. However, if it's something that requires more than half the time it took to write the thing in the first place, I don't expect them to go out on a limb to make up for Microsoft's short-comings whatsoever. If whatever you make does the job like you want how you want, and users can get to it if they take the time [to install another browser], then that's alright by me.

Ya like cb's site. You can't even leave the front page because he made it ie uncompatible.

You can now.
I didn't make it incompatible, it WAS incompatable. Not like I do my developing to personally fuck over IE, IE just fucked itself over and pissed me off.

It took me at least an hour to modify my css styles, since I had to reposition everything from static to absolute.
