One of the discussions youll find evrywhere. So why not in Blamethepixel? What dou you think of vista? Would you buy vista? Are there advantages or disadvantages to XP?

i got the business version from my University. I installed it on a seperate HDD on my Gameing-PC
AMD 2800+ 768mb 80GB
Result: 11 GB for Windows, 500 MB Ramusage after start, CPUusage: 30 - 40%
and all that for nothing else running but Windows?!
No need to use it at the moment

i bought vista ultimate.. but system builder! this kind of version is dirt cheap, you just don't get the nice package and the manual. but who need that, even if my old xp pro was illegal... i dont know "nice packages" and "manuals"

I think, if you like XP, you dont have to buy vista, cuz theres nothing new for you. But if youre using Win2k or older (or your XP is illegal *gnihihihi*), Vista is a nice OS for your PC... but the Computer must be fast enough to run Vista.
I know users who HATE xp and LOVE vista. Why? Dont know!

A few of my friends have Vista and they like it. It looks real nice and everything, but I wouldn't be able to use it, looks way too confusing; I don't have the brians for that kind of stuff.

Aero's the only real reason to use Vista over XP, no?
Also, you can always install Virtual PC under Vista and stick XP in, to get best of both worlds and work around compatibility issues.
Edit: removed LIES.

me too

is 11GB really that much given the size of hard drives now?
Zogger! remembers having a 100MB hard disk in a PC...
500MB of ram usage is a Good Thing TM. In XP your ram is just sitting there doing nothing, in vista it gets put to use to speed up your system. When you run something that requires a lot of ram windows' new memory management system re-allocates RAM to where it is most needed.
No need to use it at the moment
yeh, I would buy it (the OEM version) for a new computer but I wouldn't pay for it if I had a computer running xp that I wanted to install vista on just yet.

My computer is two years old, i just put in a new graphicscard.
120GB HDD
512MB RAM (now 2 GB... vista is running 500% faster)
2,2 GHz CPU (0,2 GHz overclocked, you notice nothing)
ATI Radeon X1600 (AGP)
My Result:
Yes, 11GB for Vista is right.
ONLY 50% RAM Usage WITH Aero Glass, running a few programs in the background.
Graphics: Cool!
I love Vista, but the Control Panel is messed up, the searchfunction wont help, its just a SEARCHfunction not a FINDfunction

Though, at the same time, Aero's the only real reason to use Vista over XP, no?
No. Halo 2 is coming out for windows vista only. Thats an incentive to get it. For gamers, it will be a huge incentive.
That said, windows vista dosnt do any more than XP did, it just does it all in a nicer looking way. Oh, and don't blow your brand new 80GB SATAII hard drive up and have to rely on an old IDE 40GB hardrive because you wont be able to fit anything else on

DirectX 10 is vista only, but it'll be a long time before games don't support dx9. Halo 2 is an exception given that microsoft wanted to give people an incentive.. I think there might be another xb360 port that's vista only too.. not sure though. Will be interesting to see Live for Windows if it ever arrives.

DirectX10 --> There just a few progs/games which use it, and if theres a one, its expensive... like the gracards, there VERY expensive. And one day, some hackers, crackers etc. make it possible to use dx10 in xp too...
THIS is the (solely?) "profit" i have from dx10:
