Ive been working on this program for quite some time now, and have just recently made an effort to finish it. The program itself has only become anything of great use in the past week because of my effort and help from FFie as my tester =). Mainly because of talk of the new update this program also allows you to change the map sizing from 640 x 32 to 32k x 32k.
I had started it off based on the idea Jehuty came up with to make a map maker based off sprites, and has grown quite a lot since then. I have made the program to mimick a lot of the useful things I have found in Photoshop and allow it to be a viable map making program with sprite tiles. The main aspect that relates to photoshop is that every tile you place becomes its own layer seperate from all other tiles. I have added many function(delete, copy, selection, move, merge, and position) to work with the various layers in the map. Each tile you place can also be transformed by a few aspects. You can read more about it here:

Latest WormMM
http://www.wmdb.org/WormMM.zip
the download contains sprites made by me and FFie for use by anyone. If anyone else has sprites they would like to add plz send a pm =) I also suggest reading the readme for the first time.
any comments/suggestions are still welcome =)

did you actually write that interface yourself in swing? I don't envy you (if you did)...

Yes I did Zog swing isnt all that bad to write GUI's once you learn the classes The main code right now is reaching 1800 lines long so its a tad hard to find things now and again when I need to.

have done some fairly complex swing, normally I find it's not making it that's the problem, but how long it takes to work out what everything does again when you want to change anything.
this is lol:

obviously gridbags aren't exactly the best layout manager to use. I used a really good one last year, can't actually remember what it was called now though. HTMLLayout is allright for some stuff as well.
ah found it; RealtiveLayout:

Very nice program ShootMe. I wasn't expecting much when I downloaded it, but now I am quite impressed with it. Good work!
My #1 Suggestion: A very simple and helpful thing you may wish to add to your program is a display for the (X,Y) positions of your mouse cursor, tile you placed, width and height of tile, etc.

thank you.
Version 1.1 will be uploaded soon with the suggestion change by Etho and new sprites as well.
was messing around with some of the new sprites I made for the program, to see if they would look good. I think they do =)

I am impressed so far. Very easy to use. Naturally the more sprites you have the better, and I would assume you can just add your own by putting them in the appropriate dir (sorry haven't bothered to read the help file yet )?
I like the tetris idea.
one suggestion: maybe drag & place should undo the whole drag rather than just the last one placed.
err also could you make ctrl+y do redo as well? bit more natural than ctrl+x

yes you can add your own sprites, and I think you missunderstood drag&place means it will place a new tile each grid spacing if you drag the mouse, and I could just add ctrl+y to do redo as well =)

v1.1 is uploaded with some new sprites, and Etho's change. Havent got around to adding the ctrl+y yet =(
EDIT: V1.2 will be out soon when FFie gets the chance to upload it. Changes include:
ctrl+y,ctrl+x both do redo now
map sizes can go up to 30k x 30k although I wouldn't recommend having the area go above 100,000,000.
large tiles or highly scaled tiles should move faster in the program now
if you load a map or wmm file the name of the file will now be shown in the main title for convenience
(NOTE) Also changed was how the program loads wmm files. If you have an old wmm file the first time you load it with v1.2 the map grid size and bggrid size will be set to minimum because I decided to put a variable into the wmm file that saves the map grid size and bg grid size in the wmm file for convenience, but after you save it with v1.2 it will keep those settings.
if you have any other suggestions plz ask

yeh, I meant that when you undo it, it should undo the whole drag instead of just one of the tiles. And possibly hold shift to constrain to one axis - not very important though.
