Now that he's finally been hung, I thought I'd post a thread so you guys can post your thoughts.

Personally, the bastard deserved every second of what he got.

I agree, though death wasn't the right choice in my opinion. I think he should have served life in prison.

Killing people is wrong.

Theres alot of sides to this matter.
That he was actually good for keeping the country stable
That he was bad for killing a few to put fear into the minds of those currently making the country as it currently is (shitty)

This is a wrong move. And I thought it was gonna happen on sunday :S. With saddam executed, many, MANY are going to go rampant, and his country is just gonna fall apart faster than the combine citadel

And as Pio stated, the country was a lot more stable under Saddam's rule than it ever will be under the new government (or should that be an extension of another country's government).

If you do want to talk numbers, the crime he was found guilty of was giving the orders to murder 170 people or somewhere there abouts. I've no facts but estimates in October 2004 said over 100,000 iraqi civilians had been killed, primarily, by coalition airstrikes. Hang Bush?

its common knowledge that the actions of saddam caused the deaths of far more than 170 people. They just used this particular incident of genocide as it would be much easier to convict him on than any of the others.

I would estimate that more people have been killed from insurgent action than coalition strikes, hard to prove either way - but strikes aren't as common as they were in the invasion 4 or so years back.

You are correct that Saddam kept Iraq stable, but stability at the cost of living in fear etc is generally something worth fighting against. The real question, is what the fuck are the Iraqi insurgents fighting against now?

It's easy to jump on but hard to get off.

Well personally, I think that saddam shouldnt of been killed, as I recon the USA goverment made the stuff up about him as a cover up.!

Hanged. If you are hung by the neck with the intention of death, then you are hanged.

Now, I'm not too sure what I think. The thing about Saddam's rule was that it was Secular. It kept things stable, although he did use extremes. Although, I'm not completely aware of everything, so I'm not going to make any judgements of my own at this point.
