it's a typical shooter game with one rather large twist.....fuck gravity nearly every wall and floor are indistinguishable, and you can go from wall to wall at will. the game is played like a pretty good shooter game, but you have to watch EVERY corner, hole, etc to stop from being killed. you also have portals that you can walk through that transport you from one place to a completely different place with no loading, no laggy transitions, nothing. it's just like you opened a door and walked through, except you're somewhere else entirely.
I've been playing the demo for this game and even the demo is more fun than most shooter games I've ever played. the game comes out in a couple weeks, and looks to be a good solid game that's really enjoyable, if not a bit gimmicky.

I like what I've played so far. Just waiting for someone to make a mod for it like Lionhead's "The Room!"

"16-bit radial lighting for the most realistic lighting....EVER!"

Yeh I've been playing the demo.. sp & mp both seem pretty good. I like that bit with the rock in the display case looking thing, and how don't fear the reaper comes on the jukebox in the bar... gives it some atmosphere.
I wouldn't mine some more open levels, but I'm not holding out much hope since it's using the doom3 engine.
Learning the MP maps is a challenge. I've pretty much got salvage walk down but the other one has too many dimensions for my mind to comprehend.
Also spirit walking is good. It makes me laugh when someone leaves their body as a sitting duck in the middle of an open room and walks off.
and yeh. 3d realms have a habit of taking a while to make their games... they were behind duke nukem forever too. Apparently that might come out sometime soon.

most realistic lighting ever? pfffft! this game can't claim anything as far as graphics go. the modelling is crap (the texturing is awesome though), the animation is decent, but nothing in this game is graphically groundbreaking by any means. it IS however one hell of an experience in gameplay. I can't wait to see the full game and the multiplayer levels in said game.

did you watch the link psymon posted? lol.
his point is that the video was from 1998, when the lighting in the engine shown at the E3 demo probably was the most realistic around.

The demo's ESRB rating is disturbing. The "Partial Nudity" that was the reason i tried the demo in the first place turned out to be just frightened men in their underwear, nothing more.
The doom3 engine has clearly undergone some improvements. They switched most of the game's effects onto DirectX, which means ATI cards now are the ones running the game perfectly, and Nvidia ones are now having countless problems. Overall, the game's performance seems to be far better than that of other games based on the engine(q4, doom3), but graphics have been degraded somewhat - even on max settings, monsters from close-up look absolutely horrible, not to mention the characters(main hero's girlfriend is accomplished so poorly, ewwww)...

I'm hoping for improved graphics in the final version, but even if not, I can get over the graphics quickly as the game is smooth and the graphics are good enough to see the details that need to be seen.
