For those of you who have a GeForce4 video/graphics card hopefully you can help me out. I got the highest nVidea drvier upgrade ok? And I just found the feature where you can make your own custom resolution. For so many years I've wanted the resolution of 1600x1200. I can't pick that resolution unless I uncheck "Hide resolutions my monitor can't display". Now NOTE: I have picked a resolution that my monitor thought I couldn't display and it worked once before. But sometimes if you pick a bad one you will get nothing but a black screen and it will say, "Cannot display this Video Mode." If I happen to get that error? What can I do to prevent it or undo it?

wait 15 seconds and your display gets returned to the previous setting unless you say otherwise, and you cant say otherwise if you cant see the box to tick.

No. I know this may seem cracked out. But I picked a res above 1024x768 and it did the 15 second thing. I stupidly hit Enter so it said "OK" and it snapped to that res. But when it was doing the 15 sec thing it said "Cannot Display this Video Mode". But in case that happens, how do I fix it? That's what I'm asking.

EDIT: I've seen 1600x1200 res on a crappy RBG school monitor. And a flat panel LCD monitor can't do that? No.

I could write a little program really quickly which you can create a shortcut to, and assign a shortcut key, so if you ever get stuck you would have a way back. It would only take 5-10 minutes, since I recently wrote another little program which changes display settings.

Done :D I'll email it to you

I suppose that's one "good" thing about my degree (aero engineering), there aren't too many terms/words/etc that have "alternative" meanings.
What, like cockpits, turboshafts, thrust, nozzles, corkscrews, ram drag, payload, flaps, and wind tunnels?

But that includes time between posting and deciding to make the program :P The meaty bit of the program is only 5 lines of code or something.

Boot Windows into safe mode to change the resolution. It loads a generic, stable VGA driver that (iirc) runs at 640*480, 256 colours.

Yeah I had thought about safe mode, but I wasn't completely sure. Of course if you're in the middle of doing something else, you might not want to reset your computer.

edited : Looks like its the 66.93 drivers. Im running the beta version of these. Time to upgrade when i can be bothered. *le sigh*

They can, you just have to spend alot.

edit: here's the lowest price example I've found so far:

Ummmmm... It's been known to hit enter and have the res snap on even tho ur monitor is not supposed to handle it. Other than that, ur right. But you gotta have those programs to save the stupid people from getting pissed.
