um, a hermit is also a kind of crab, which is what I was taking it as. I would imagine the term for a "withdrawn" person comes from the look of the crab w/ a shell to hide in or something - or maybe its lifestyle...

Very good. Now I'll have to complain to dictionary.com for leaving a definition out of its list. Slackers.

Hermit crabs are called hermit because they hide away in their shells like hermits, but that doesn't mean they should appear under the word hermit in a dictionary. What if 250 different creatures were named hermit whatevers?

What, like cockpits, turboshafts, thrust, nozzles, corkscrews, ram drag, payload, flaps, and wind tunnels? |

Any of various crabs belonging to a group within the order Decapoda that protect their soft unarmored abdomens by occupying and carrying about the empty shells of snails or other univalve mollusks.

An old-fashioned chewy cookie made with chopped fruits, nuts, and molasses or brown sugar.
Yum, sounds delicious!
