It works like this for people that dont know . Someone puts up an item for autction. say.. it was for Worms armageddon. Now, he sets the first price at $0.01 (which i've seen set with alot of items lately..)
Next, people who are interested and want to buy that particular item sets up a Bid. Theres gonna be a minimum (dunno about here but on ebay there is) of how much you can bid.
Anyone can bid as many times as you want depending on how high the last biddder placed his bid, and how much your willing to spend. The person with the highest bid when time runs out, wins the auction and payment/shipment deals are handled later.
I hope that sums it up for some ppl

I think he's talking about a maximum amount that you can increase the bid. I n other words, make it so someone can't raise the bid by some insanely high number such as £600 to keep everyone else from having a chance at it).

Thats stupid. You can actually do this in real auctions, leave your bid. So the bidding starts at the highest left bid for the people in the room.
All it does, is gives you a little certainty you might get it. E.G pope bit over 1000 to try and make sure he wasnt outbid on my desk item, thus he wasnt till late into the night.

you know I heard in some countries auctions work the other way round. They start the price off high and go down, then someone stops it when it reaches a price they'll pay. crazy eh .
