OFF TOPIC WARNING: Thread has so many off topic posts! I will have to now go back on-topic!

My W:A's been working fine on SP2, except once in a while it boots to desktop, gives the error message, and asks for the error reporting. Re-installing helped, and W:A works now fine.

Yay no pb. Finally I disabled every new feature of SP2, the firewall, security center, and DEP (data execution protection), also called NX bit, this is a big piece of what you guess. Basically it is designed to fight against virus code and protects some parts of memory, which can't be accessed. But, it crashes a lot of programs... hopefully you can make protection exclusions. I excluded explorer.exe, firefox and all went fine again. When i clicked on some .exe files, explorer would just crash.. annoying. Some javascript code doens't like much that feature, neither does PSP8 sometimes.

Total : every new feature is now disabled, except the IE anti popup. Good for security fixes though.

I see no reason to get a service pack like SP2 and then disable all its features.
I'm looking to update to SP1 soon, since support for XP without service packs officially ends in one month's time.

Don't forget that most bugs SP2 causes are simply because it makes Windows stricter - so they're actually caused by bad programs that assume they can access arbitrary memory locations and run without firewalls. In the past, Microsoft has rewritten memory management routines just to get indiviual games to work, but I for one don't blame them for not bothering this time.

Has anyone tried playing WA 3.6.19 or earlier on SP2 with an overpowered scheme? That causes the game to read the wrong memory locations, I'm wondering if SP2 stops this.
