If you're using Win XP, you have to set its the game's properties to Win 98.

close out any programs that are using your internet connection that you dont really need open (AIM, MSN, I.E.)

I don't get lag from my internet, but I get lag from my cd drive. When it loads to the cd, it takes forever to load it.

really, you don't have to ask before trying . It can't hurt to try a different compatibility mode.
They call it initiative, or something.

I don't think that matters if it's 98 or 95 but I really could be wrong. As for lag, turn off AIM is all I have to say because it eats up like 27,000 freakin K's of space. More than any other process I see running in the windows task manager. You have Cable Royal so I don't see why you would lag even if you didn't have anything running.

yesh, on that thought, when you say lag, do you mean lag over the internet, or lag on your end?
Certain virus scanners tend to eat up a lot of CPU too.
if it's a screen lag issue (not internet lag), then:
If you press ctrl+alt+delete, and go to processes, you can take a look at what's eating up what... Click the memory usage column and see what's taking up the most memory, then click the CPU column and see what's using the CPU the most. IF anything looks like it's continually eating up CPU, that's probably your problem.
If you have a lot of memory then memory usage isn't really much of a factor, I don't think...
Here's a screenshot

if you turn on the 'peak mem usage' column you can also see which ones are likely to jump up and use lots more than they are at the moment
