Ok, I'll admit it, I'm an ebay virgin.

I've always looked at the things being sold there and never believed the prices.

Then whilst thinking up cool things that I could search for on it, i thought up digital camcorders...

£2 for something which, when I searched for on google quickly, was something like £350. The "buy it now" price is £2, and so I'm not quite sure how good this is.

Any tips on buying off ebay would be well appreciated...

Whilst we're on the subject of ebay, feel free to mention any weird items you've seen sold or the prices things have gone for.

Oh I have also seen a £1 coin (not antique or anything special about it) being sold for £9...

I've seen a FITcon pass signed by the 8-bit theater staff. I don't remeber how much it wern't for though.

Me and Duck bought a BMW z4 like 6 months before they were released in England. Got the highest big but nothing ever happend. And even if it did we wouldnt have had the money to pay for it

I bought my RAM upgrade on eBay. As I see it, you just need to look at these things:
- Seller's feedback: click the number next to their name (http://cgi2.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=w1gang)
- Payment method (PayPal most of the time, but many accept cheque or credit card as well)
- P+P cost - watch out, can be a lot.
- Time left: this one has 6 days left, so you might want to keep watching it for a bit. If you want it, be there just as it closes to beat anyone who might outbid you.
- When you place a bid, eBay will only make you pay the minimum needed to beat everyone else. If the current price is £30, and you enter £50, your bid will be £31. But if someone comes along and bids £45, your bid will be raised to £46.

I don't claim to know a lot, but I hope this helps.

I'll start bidding for other things as well then with these things in mind...

i got wwp for 12$ off of amazon, which is a pretty good sell/buy site.

Ebay is so large now that they even have their own commercials..but now there are scams and such when people sell stuff for 500$ and is only worth like, 20$.

There is one thing that probably goes without saying. Remember, if it sounds WAY too good to be true, guess what? It probably is .
Edit: By too good to be true, I'm talking about the product, but you hopefully caught on to that...

Ivan. what tundraH says is true. I and my dad ( especially him ) buys tons of stuff on ebay.

If you can get a paypal account. Its just so much easier.

and one last thing READ THE FEEDBACK.

each user will have comments left buy people who bought/sold stuff to/from them.

Its a good indication of how easy its gonna be to do buisness. Especially if its somehting expensive.

Heh. We got WinXP Pro on Ebay for £60, which is a pretty good deal. That's at most half price. And legal too.

edit: there are actually people who sell good feedback on Ebay, I think, although I don't know anything about that, and if you just look at what the recent items are, and none of them are payed feedback, then they're likely not doing it. heh.

Oh, and don't forget to go to your eBay preferences and check the marketing options - the defaults aren't what most people would want.

Amazon has the best shipping.. well the one guy i bought wwp off 3 months shipped fast, i bought the cheap shipping which was suppose to come in like 14 days, and it came in 2 days.

OK well I know what I want to buy, I know how to bid, I have a paypal account, the item is payable by paypal, the shipping is low.

But what stops the seller recieving my money and keeping splinter cell pandora tomorrow?
