Heh, no problem, MC. It was good practice. I've only been colouring in scanned images for a few days now, so having something more detailed than my drawing below was handy.
An image!

Edit: Sorry, I'm really quite busy at the moment and for the next 2 months (curse you, education), so I don't have time to colour anything else. Truth is, I should be working ><

If I know the Pope like I do. He uses Fireworks to colour them :P

Well, that's really quite vague :P.

I'm guessing he scans it in, and then traces it in fireworks using appropriate bush sizes and such. Then makes a new layers below the outline to make colouring. Another layer on top of colouring for shading and perhaps a final layer for additional detail.

But it seems that Pope kept the pencil marks and such, instead of re-drawing it. I'm guessing he used a transparent bush and went over the work.

I did of course use Fireworks MX.

Okay, step by step:
1. Opened the sketch with the program.

2. Increased the lightness and contrast, to make the lines stronger.

3. Duplicated the lines layer and added a subdued green hue effect and set it to a 'Multiply' blend mode on top of the original line art.

4. Selected the brush tool and set the blend mode to multiply and coloured out the blocks of colour, didn't matter if it was messy.

5. Once that was done, I removed the blendmode, moved all the colour layers below the line art.

6. I individually changed each layer from vector to bitmap, so I could use the eraser to clean up any colour which was outside the section I wanted.

7. I selected the Dodge tool, midtone, at 20 strength and highlighted the light areas. Multiple strokes for lighter colour.

8. After that, chose the burn tool, midtone, 20 strength and shaded the dark areas.

9. On parts like the roots of the stump, I blurred the shading a little so it didn't stand out as much.

It's a simple technique and you can spend as much or as little time as you like.

So a quick rundown:
Block out colours.
Clean up edges.
Highlight and shade accordingly.

I'm playing my guitar, which reminded me of something I did recently:
SpoilerSpoiler (Click to Expand)Spoiler
Incomplete list of flaws:
-Shoddy cropping on the huge amp
-Forgot the guitar pickups. Bah.
-No whites in the eyes. I'm getting worse and worse at that.

Nice stuff too, Pope :D
