After much browsing of websites, shouting at prices, confusion over processors, printing, comparing and many toilet breaks, I still cant find the right laptop for me.

My old one is heavy, crap runs like a snail and has the brain of one too. And so I have would like help from you peeps.

I have a preference for fast computers and good performance, as most of us have. Unfortunatly I have limited knowledge on processors and their speeds and have kinda given up trying to work out what is best for me, so I will also leave that to you.

My dream laptop must be/have:

512MB RAM as a minimum. I like to use up memory, and I always do.

Portable. But there should no problem with that.

unshared memory. Most of the cheap laptops have this and I have had problems with it in the past since I use a lot of media

less than £1000.

This is going to be the machine that I do most, if not all, of my work on. This will include media projects as well as school work. And a bit of gaming, but I hav a good computer for that.

Those are my only preferences. Does anyone know of anything that will suit me?

I made this mistake of getting a laptop after my GCSE year, now i have a shiny new desktop.

The only use for a laptop is travelling or if you use the computer during school. (such as taking notes or projects)

I need something to do my work on both in school at home and very possibly at work. And since I doubt I will want to lug a desktop around I think this is the best thing for me.
The "work" I will be doing will very between subjects, personal stuff and whatever really.

If you want a Laptop that runs more then 2 hours on battery, then you should choose a
Intel Centrino Processor (for 4 or more hours without being on the cable).
But i got to say that my Centrino Lapto just runs 2 hours on battery now (but i got a Yakumo Laptop, the time on Bat was 5 hours, but the battery is now 2 years old...)

Most of the Centrino Laptops form Acer come with a Mobil Radeon (often the 9700Mobilion)
and some good RAM and HDD values.

What leeds us to the price here in Germany,
these Laptops cost betwenn 1000 and 1300 Euros. But i cant tell you what they costbin your Country.

But you should know that Roping wiht a Laptopkeyboard harder is, cause the keys are very near to each other.

And belive me your laptop wont be long used for work only.

Nice site, but wow, every upgrade just sucks you dry by the looks of it. I didn't have a keyboard, mouse, or monitor when I was playing around, and the computer still came out to over $900 USD

If you are just looking for a desktop PC, ask your self, what components you have and which one of them do you want to use in your new computer.
Then look what you need and get the peaces alone and built your new PC by your self.
This can safe you some Money if you want to use, for example, your Monitor, Burner, CD/DVD, HDD Diveces any longer.
Then you just need a new Mainboard, new RAM, a new CPU, Fans (of course), and often a new Powersuply.
If you feel then that you need some new components then you can buy them step by step (when you need mor space for storage, or a new Graphics Card)

check the discount bin. I got a computer just as good as a friend's $1400 computer for $700. I didn't get a monitor since I didn't need one, but I got everything else and free shipping.

some of the builds ARE overpriced, but the discount ones are quite cheap. there's the option to make a good comptuer for $400 if you find the right deals.

edit: also notice that some upgrades will cost tons more, while some others cost only a couple bucks more. in many cases, you can upgrade something to a point where it's good, but the next level up (even if it's a minimal upgrade) might be very expensive. settle for the 2.6Ghz instead of the 2.8, for instance, and you'll be savin loads.

you could run linux, or aleady have a licence for windows.

have a windows CD with ya :p or get someone else to instal it onto your computer for free (a friend of mine has all the windows install files, and gives them to people who need it)

I looked at Acer. They do business stuff which has all this extra shit that I dont need.


The only thing I like about that site is the pictures. Some tasty desktops there. But its all American and pricey and I just cant make friends with it.


uLOSE. I dont want an apple. Infact, I cant use one. And just about evry program you could buy is not supported by a mac, except made-for-mac programs...obviously.
