Whenever I put doctype on my pages, things mess up. So far I managed to fix most of them, but one doesn't seem to want to fix. That one is a css problem. You see, my my two designs, one of them uses the extension .css, and the other uses .php. The .php one doesn't load when I add doctype to the page. It used to, but then when I was finished converting everything on the page to html 4.0 and reloaded the page, the design wouldn't load.

you asked me this, i think.
make sure the php does the header content-type statement properly.
other then that, we need what you tried, the effects, and what you expected.
