The PSP will arrive in British shores in March of this year. How do you think the anticipation of it will be?

Impressive, sleek thin design. I might buy one.
The game discs are smaller than the GC ones which is pretty good, but probably can be lost easily.

I vote Yesh

Also consider the prices for the Ds and PSP and what you get for each.

*Note these prices are approximations of the cost by gameplay*

PSP- £180 - Near PS2 graphics, capability to play music and movies. Wireless play and connectivity due to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Memory Stick slot etc...(There's heaps more)

DS - £150 - Dual screen, one touch screen, wireless multiplay, backwards compatible with GBA (not GB Colour or further back), microphone.

More features and a heck of a lot cooler. Thats my overview on the PSP. Heaps more features than the DS for £30 quid extra? I say the PSP is worth every penny

You mean do I want one as in if, hypothetically, one were GIVEN to me, or if I'd have to pay for it? Of course I'd want one for free :P I simply can't justify the money these are gonna cost. And stop claiming that the PSP is better than the DS because of graphics. Nintendo's handhelds were never the spearhead of technology. Some of the handhelds had color waaay before GBC. And the N-Gage (what a failure) had better graphics than the GBA. This is just another case in point. But the PSP has a larger following. The sales are gonna be tight between the two. But I chose the DS 'cause I prefer the games for it, and because Nintendo's games have innovation. And I've no place to easily rack up the money for a PSP... but man, the graphics can look amazing for the PSP. I thought it'd be a while 'till we had full fledged next-gen portables. I guess not :P

Er, conclusion, get a PSP or DS depending on whose games you like. Heh.

Yes, but playstation have always had a much wider range. It would be the PSP for me because the DS seems to wanty to do more than just games. And wouldnt u agree that a console for pure gaming would be much better at its job?

WHAT?! Like the PSP doesn't? It can store movies, music, and images! It's like a friggin' computer (which makes use of its power, not really a bad thing depending on the user)! I want a gaming system for GAMES, not music, I've a CD player for that. The DS is totally a game system. Please specify, 'cause I dunno what the hell you were talking about there. And the wide range? I'll give it that. Either Nintendo's day has passed, or people are getting REALLY picky...

The new handheld should be quite good for the whole portable market,

Nintendo havent had competition for a while. and prices reflect that.

Cheers to healthy competition.

Yeah, Jay, this should get 'em both going. Nintendo and Sony are gonna have to both stay on their feet. (@ Runt, the PSP discs ain't gonna get lost easier than the DS cartridges. They're puny!) As I read in the review, the often referred-to short battery life on the PSP is compensated with saved progress after it runs outta juice. But the price for the games, the system, the various batteries, and any extensions is no pocket change matter. I guess if I am in fact gonna buy one, I'm gonna have to wait till the price drops significantly. The DS is more than enough to entertain me till then ;) Even if I do get one I'll probably still play 'em both a decent amount. They've churned out some good stuff.

Now, you do all realize that to watch movies or listen to CDs for the PSP, you actually have to buy a specially made disk, correct? That means you're going to be paying for that version of the movie/CD, and inevitably for a version that you can use on a computer or DVD player for ease of use.
That said, I don't know which one I'd go with. I'll probably go with neither, because I just don't have any real income. If you said that I had to go with one though, I'd have to wait for the PSP to actually be released and be out for a month or so before making my decision.

Ah, but you can connect to a computer via cable. As such, you can download mp3s and MPEGs, although it's restricted in the filetype. It's definitely less convenient than, oh say, a portable DVD player, but nobody's buyin' it just for music and movies. At least, I hope not.

I didnt no that. My lack of research has confudled me once again. I still stick by with my observation of the DS though.
Playstation has always been a step ahead of nintendo. The PSP is no execption imo

The maximum file size is likely the maximum amount of memory that can be stored on a disk (or whatever you'd have to use). The other limit is the filetypes that it can play.

In terms of technology, yes. Nintendo was really never, except maybe back in its really early days, the tip of the food chain in graphics and memory and all that. But it's had great (my opinion) games/series. If you're easily wowed by great graphics and like the quality of the sound and stuff, by all means get the PSP. But if you really don't give a crap about that and simply prefer either portable's games, get the one you prefer :P
