If you have an older model.

You could have significantly less "cache" which is the good stuff.

for example knifa just upgraded to the 2500 mobile. which has double the cache of his previous processor. HE then preceeded to overclock it up to the 3200 speed.

Thats 2.2 ghz. if you got decent cooling.

You might find thats a pretty good upgrade, and a simple processor switch.

You can pick up one for rougly 45-55 quid. And it would certainly do you until you could afford to upgrade to the latest mobo and processor things. Such as 64bit and whatever the p4 shite is going at high end atm.

What iim saying is it would last you to the end of the year at least. And you probs would see the benefits of increased cache. If you dont have very much atm.

Im sure knifa could tell you of the gains he has seen.

The pc 2700 would be ok for the 2500 at stock speeds. And probably cope with a small overclock.

Anyway, find out what model your processor is, and we can take it from there.


Of course, if your dead set on a p4 ( you crazy person! ) be prepared to shove out some more cash.

while on the business of upgrading, i'm looking for a new graphics card, budget around £100 or so?
I've got some wierd galaxy card or something, but i know its got an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Chipset :O if thats at all relavant. Do you need to know my other components?

Gfx cards don't depend on the other components as much as processors...go for a GeForce 5900xt if you can afford it, for £120, or a Raedon 9800 for £103 if not.

I got my graphics card(ATI radeon 9800 pro, power color chip set. for less than £100, i'm sure.
I got it from bowlers, the computer fair.(It isn't retail, so returning it is a pain)

edit: admition to bowlers is about £3.

edit: I have an ATI radeon nine thosand EIGHT hundred pro.

Pssh, thanks to Jay you have to shell out more cash I think you mean The cards I suggested are great for about £100, but if you are spending more then go for it. If you are getting a 6600Gt, you may aswell go for a 6800Gt

thats about 100 more than he wants to spend meia, and benches show the 6600GT consistently pwns last generation cards

But isn't the 6600Gt also like £100 quid more? meh, anything will pwn my card :X

6600GT is like £130 and the 6800GT is like £240 so theres a big difference but i neeed to wait a while for my bank balance to go up, i've been on a bit of a spending spree recently XD
