I never had problems related to service pack 2, but maybe because i disabled DEP protection, which is a great piece of... lag and trouble.

Service Pack 2 never made problems for me either, and I have 2 firewalls running and that doesn't even lag me or anything. As for WinAmp, just makes some lag...

It's Data Execution Prevention, a new feature added in SP2, it was designed to counter malicious code, from virus for example, or to prevent buffer overflows. It is hardware supported by NX processor feature in AMD64 cpus or Execute Disable Bit (XD) feature by Intel. But when you don't have a hardware compatible cpu, windows emulates it using software, so it slows down windows and can make some apps who use some unusual parts of memory crash. I disabled it totally becaus'e it made firefox crash randomly, sometimes explorer, paint shop pro, and more. The worst thing was the slowdown. ________________
