Yeah i use notepad and now i use Zogger's brother's awesome program. It saves me hours of time finding the right line. Which I had problems with in notepad. And it also has so much more.

I used notepad for PHP when I was new to it. Now I use PHPEdit. It's SO much easier, mostly because of the colour coding. That helps very much.

I use an incredably old Windows 98 program called Webber32 (the company went under :/). I basically use it like notepad. The only help that it really gives me is that it highlights my tags in blue, and I can make my own coding shortcut keys (Most used: Ctrl+5 for table rows with 10 columns O_o). It can do other stuff, but I prefer to make my own code thank you very much. And then I run it through an online validator (since the program runs on HTML 3.2 specs).

go get urself php edit, it has lots of dandy html functions too - dont think it has a built in validator, but only a few progs i've worked with do. It has a kayboard templates function which is similar to the coding shortcuts you mentioned, eg
if i type "if" and press space, it enteres:
"if ([clipboard content]]) {
} else {
}"
fully customisable and a whole host of other features including tag hint (type http://www.phpedit.net compeltely free for non-commerical use.

I have turned those autocomplete functions off, like when you type '(' it automatically prints out a ')' too. It's annoying.

i bet they taught you how to use tables to layout your page then?
Very few people seem to be teaching modern techniques in schools and things. Pity really, since XHTML is now 5 years old...

Yeah, marquees look pretty tacky imo anyways. But the stuff you sound like ur doing in the class, i learned in about 5 seconds. Mind you skools usually do start off pretty basic.
